v0 Alternatives: Which One Fits Why You Are Leaving

Match the alternative to the reason you are leaving. If you want a backend and a database handled for you, Lovable or Base44. If you want a real development environment and your choice of host, Bolt.new. If you want to write code yourself with AI help, Cursor. If cost is the issue, first check what you are actually being billed for, because v0 meters tokens, not messages. v0 itself is a UI-first tool: it does its job well and is aimed at React and Vercel, so many people who leave are not unhappy with it, they need something it does not aim to be.

What v0 costs, so you can compare

For the rate card behind those plans, see v0 pricing and credits explained. From v0’s pricing page and docs, checked 29 September 2026: Free gives $5 of credits a month and 7 messages a day; Plus is $30 per user a month with $30 of credits and $2 of free daily credits; Business is $100 per user. Credits are dollars, spent at model token rates. The page also shows a struck-through $90 next to Plus, which is not a price. v0’s docs still list a $20 Premium plan but say it is sunsetted for new users, which is why some older guides quote $20. Monthly credits expire after 65 days and purchased credits after a year.

Vercel announced the switch from message counts to token metering on 13 May 2025, saying it makes pricing more predictable and gives the free tier more usage. Whether it raised or lowered your own bill depends on how you prompt; we have no data on that and this page does not claim either.

Prices are entry paid plans from each vendor’s page as recorded in the pricing index, checked 28 to 29 September 2026. They are not like-for-like: the units are dollars of credit (v0), credits (Lovable, Base44, Atoms), tokens (Bolt) and dollars of effort (Replit). Lovable vs Bolt vs v0 explains the units side by side.

Try this first, if v0 fits the work

  • You mostly need a UI. Staying on v0 and wiring your own backend is what it is built for. Its GitHub sync lets you keep the code in a repository with branches and pull requests.
  • You keep running out of credits. Choose a cheaper model for routine edits (v0’s Mini model is $0.20 per million input tokens against $2 for Pro and $5 for Max, per its pricing page) and keep the top model for hard prompts.
  • The Vercel tie-in bothers you. v0’s docs say GitHub sync does not grant permission to deploy through other Vercel interfaces, and v0 is built primarily for Vercel deployment. If host choice matters, Bolt’s docs explicitly allow other hosts. See the export matrix.

The alternatives in brief

Lovable turns a brief into a full-stack app with a database. It bills in credits with a cost per action that varies, and building stops at zero credits (what happens when credits run out). Read the Lovable review.

Bolt.new is the closest to “a real dev machine in a tab” and the one most explicit about leaving: your code lives in GitHub and you can publish elsewhere. Token use rises with project size. See Bolt.new alternatives if you later leave it too.

Base44 hides the backend entirely, and separately meters integration credits for what the live app does. It is best for internal tools. Wix bought it in 2025; leaving means re-pointing backend calls (Base44 vs Lovable).

Cursor is a different category: an editor with an agent. It suits you if you want to own the codebase. Its usage pools are explained in Cursor pricing.

Replit Agent and Atoms.dev fill out the list: Replit for an all-in-one workspace with effort-based billing (Replit pricing), Atoms for a credit-tier builder with an approved partner link, reviewed in our Atoms review.

Two of these have affiliate programmes: Atoms.dev and Base44. Using the links costs you nothing extra and we earn a commission if you sign up; they are in the table on the same basis as the others. For the whole field see best AI app builder.

Method

Researched from vendor pricing pages and docs, checked 28 to 29 September 2026. We have not built the same app on v0 and each alternative, so nothing here compares output quality. The claim in the previous version that credit billing halved usable output had no source and has been removed. Re-checked every 60 days.

Common questions

What is the best alternative to v0?

It depends on why you are leaving. For a full-stack app with the backend handled, Lovable; for code control and host choice, Bolt.new; for writing code yourself, Cursor.

How much does v0 cost?

Free ($5 of credits a month), Plus at $30 per user a month, Business at $100 per user, and Enterprise on request, per v0’s pricing page on 29 September 2026.

Is there a free alternative to v0?

Lovable, Bolt.new, Base44 and Atoms.dev all have free plans, with different daily and monthly limits. See best free AI app builder.

Update log

  1. Rewritten. Removed the unsourced claim that credit billing halved usable output and the outdated $20 price (v0 Plus is $30 per user; the $20 Premium tier is sunsetted for new users). Added a leave-by-reason table and plan prices from the pricing index.
