Match the alternative to the reason you are leaving. If Bolt’s token use is the problem, try Lovable or Atoms, which meter by credits. If you want polished front-end code, v0. If you want no infrastructure to think about, Base44. If you want a real development environment with everything included, Replit. If Bolt’s browser editor is the constraint, move to a code editor such as Cursor or Claude Code. And before you switch, spend ten minutes on the token-saving steps below: they fix the most common complaint without leaving. The plan-by-plan numbers are in Bolt.new pricing and tokens explained.
Try this first: cut Bolt’s token use
Bolt’s own guidance says a smaller project uses fewer tokens because there is less code to read, and lists what consumes tokens: reading project files, every Build-mode prompt, connector use and automatic fix attempts. Its listed remedies:
- Discuss in Plan mode, which costs less than Build mode
- Write focused prompts that name the file or function
- Add features one at a time and test between them
- Use Version History to undo changes without spending tokens
- Remove unused files and split large ones
Current Bolt plans, from its pricing page: Free has 300,000 tokens a day and 1 million a month; Pro is $25 a month with 10 million tokens or more, no daily limit and custom domain support; Teams is $30 a month per member. Whether these steps get you through a month is something only your project can tell you.
What the alternatives cost
Entry paid plans from each vendor’s pricing page, via our pricing index, checked 28 September 2026. Credits are not the same unit as Bolt’s tokens, so compare what you get, not only the number.
| Tool | Entry paid plan | What the plan states |
|---|---|---|
| Bolt.new (for reference) | $25 a month (Pro) | 10 million tokens or more a month |
| Lovable | $25 a month, $21 billed yearly (Pro) | 100 credits plus 5 daily build credits |
| v0 | $30 per user a month (Plus; v0’s page shows a struck-through $90) | $30 in monthly credits plus $2 daily |
| Base44 | $16 a month billed yearly (Starter) | 100 message credits, 2,000 integration credits |
| Replit | $20 a month, $18 billed yearly (Core) | $20 towards the most powerful models |
| Atoms.dev | $20 a month (Pro) | 100 credits a month; 250 for $50 |
| Softgen | $25 a month (Starter) | 500 credits a month |
Earlier versions of this page quoted Softgen at roughly $33 a year plus usage. Softgen’s pricing page now shows $25 and $49 monthly plans; the plan cards, read in a rendered browser on 29 Sep 2026, show Starter at $25 with 500 credits and Pro at $49 with 1,500 credits, with no annual price stated.
Pick by reason for leaving
| Why you are leaving Bolt | Try | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Token spend climbs on larger projects | Lovable or Atoms.dev | Credit-based billing instead of tokens; Lovable’s credits also cover hosting after a small grant |
| You want polished React UI | v0 | Front-end focus with Vercel deployment; backend is thinner |
| You do not want to configure a backend | Base44 | Managed backend, auth and data; integrations meter separately |
| You want the IDE, database and hosting in one place | Replit Agent | Real dev environment with an agent; extra usage billed on top of plans |
| Bolt’s browser editor is the limit | Cursor or Claude Code | Local editor, your own stack; see Cursor alternatives and Claude Code vs Cursor |
| You want a lower monthly floor | Base44 Starter or Atoms Pro | $16 (yearly) and $20 entry prices |
Head-to-heads: Lovable vs Bolt vs v0 and Base44 vs Bolt.new. Every option above hosts your app inside its plan; custom domains are optional.
The partner options
Three of these have affiliate programmes: Atoms.dev, Softgen and Base44. Using them costs you nothing extra and we earn a commission if you sign up. They are in the table on the same basis as the rest: plan prices from the vendor pages.
Method
Researched from vendor pricing pages and Bolt’s support documentation, checked 28 and 29 September 2026. We have not rebuilt one project on each tool, so this page does not claim which produces better code or costs less for your project. Prices and limits change often.
Common questions
What is the best alternative to Bolt.new?
It depends on why you are switching. Lovable or Atoms for credit-based billing, v0 for front-end quality, Base44 for a managed backend, Replit for an all-in-one environment, or a code editor for more control.
Why does Bolt.new use so many tokens?
Bolt’s own documentation says most usage comes from reading project files, so larger projects use more per prompt, and each Build-mode prompt and automatic fix attempt also spends tokens.
Is there a free alternative to Bolt.new?
Lovable, v0, Base44, Atoms.dev and Replit all list free tiers. Lovable’s gives 5 daily credits up to 30 a month, v0’s $5 a month, Base44’s 25 message credits a month, and Atoms’s 15 credits a day and 25 a month. See the free AI app builder guide.
